Kidizen: Thrifting Made Fancy For Children’s Clothes

There is no denying that children grow up incredibly fast, so it is not unusual to end up with an outgrown wardrobe and having to buy a bunch of clothes for the upcoming season.

Back in December 2019, I was surfing the Internet looking for cool online thrift shops, because I try to live as sustainably as possible, and I prefer to buy secondhand clothing in excellent condition from reputable brands, rather than buying from fast-fashion chains. And in my search endeavor, I stumbled upon Kidizen, an online platform for buying and selling high-quality secondhand children’s clothes.

Although I love many high-end brands for kids’ clothing, the prices are just too high, especially due to the fact that I am sure they will not be worn as much as I would like. So, instead of paying $68 on a Janie and Jack dress, I will end up paying half of that amount (or less) on Kidizen. Ever since I joined Kidizen, I can honestly say that at least 75% of my daughter’s clothes have been purchased there, and I am fully satisfied with my experience.

But, how does it work?

Kidizen is very straightforward to use, in fact, it is even more simple to use in the mobile app. You just have to filter your search by gender, category (clothes, shoes, accessories, even toys and books), brand, price, size, and condition (you can find many new with tag items too).

You can also use it for selling your kids’ outgrown clothes, you just need to upload the pictures, write a detailed description and offer a price for it. Many successful shops make good money out of it. I mostly buy but when I sell I keep my Kid Bucks (the payment system used on Kidizen) to purchase more clothes on Kidizen. Kid Bucks can be deposited into your bank account (yup, easy peasy).

There is room for all brands

In addition to high-end clothing brands, you will also find a large selection of regular mall/retail brands, such as GAP, Old Navy, Justice, Abercrombie, Children’s Place, all Target brands, etc.

No time for selling? No worries, ask a Style Scout!

For those who have been on Kidizen for a while and meet the desired criteria, there is the option of becoming a Style Scout, which is someone who can sell for you, so that you do not have to go through all the process of segregating clothes, taking good pictures, writing all the details, shipping, etc. They will sell your items in their shops and will take a small portion of what they sell for you.

I absolutely love that you can personalize some of the details about your shop, by adding a description (kind of an about me section), an avatar, and a cover image. Your shop will also display your number of sales and your rating too (based on your buyers’ reviews), therefore, the buyer can know a bit about yourself before purchasing an item from you.
